Who I Am
I'm Shane Kingsley, a senior engineer with over a decade of delivering solutions that others called too complex. APIs, integrations, migrations, cloud infrastructure. I've worked across the full technical stack and across multiple industries.
These days I'm most energised by solution design and high-level architecture: the point where the right technical decision changes a business outcome. In complex discussions I tend to see the whole picture early, picking up on connections and dependencies that surface for others later. It's not a party trick. It's how I'm wired.
I communicate clearly with non-technical people, deliver on what I promise, and tell the truth about what's possible. That combination is rarer than it should be.
Alongside my employed work, I take on freelance projects for small businesses, building software that genuinely fits their needs rather than forcing them into a template.
What I Build
Career
- Delivering backend solutions within a large private healthcare group, working across Microsoft Azure infrastructure and .NET services at scale.
- Acting as a technical reference point for integration decisions across mid-size product teams, bridging complex requirements and delivery.
- Translating ambiguous business requirements into clear technical design, bridging stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Actively introducing AI-assisted development practices to improve team velocity and code quality.
- Part of a small founding team that designed and built a cloud-first integration layer from the ground up. Terraform-managed, AWS-deployed, with automated environment provisioning per client.
- Built and maintained a cloud-first integration platform connecting a Magento commerce UI to multiple ERP backend systems, designing the connector layer for each.
- Worked across complex data flows in the building trade sector, handling real-time sync, order management, and stock integration at scale.
- Progressed from Software Engineer to Lead Solutions Architect over 7 years, taking ownership of technical design and architectural decisions for in-house systems.
- Led design and execution of scalable business systems, owning architectural decisions across the full stack including C# .NET Core, ASP.NET Core, MVC, and AWS Cloud services.
- Responsible for integration problem solving across multiple internal platforms, and maintaining currency with industry standards for cloud-based web applications.
- Delivered solutions across membership, examination, and accreditation systems for one of the UK's leading IT professional bodies.
- Built fintech web applications in ASP.NET, C#, MVC 4/5 and SQL Server within a fast-moving foreign exchange environment.
- Early exposure to financial services delivery standards, data integrity requirements, and payment platform integration.
- Delivered UX design, usability testing, and front-end web application development in Java, establishing a grounding in user-centred design that informs technical decisions today.
- Early-career engineering role covering .NET, WCF/WPF, VB development, and requirements capture in a technical consultancy environment.
- Build tailored web solutions for small businesses where off-the-shelf products fall short.
- Handle the full engagement: requirements, design, delivery, and ongoing support, as a single trusted contact.
Foundation
- First class honours degree in Computer Science from a Russell Group university, providing the academic foundation for 13+ years of engineering practice.
What I Bring
I'm actively exploring how AI tools augment the work of an experienced engineer, not replacing judgment, but multiplying what one person can deliver. Experimenting with the Claude API, agentic AI workflows, and applying these tools to real client work. This site is part of that journey.
